Position Summary: Perform repair, maintenance, and installation of all piping systems to include cooling/heating lines & related components as well as steam lines and related equipment. Maintain compliance with national and state plumbing codes and accrediting agencies such as TJC, NFPA, and administration guidelines. Ensure a safe and uninterrupted service to patients and all staff members. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed responsibilities:
Inspect, install, repair, and maintain all pipes to include cooling/heating lines & related components as well as steam lines and related equipment
Repair any malfunction or discrepancy to supervisor
Perform welding, brazing, and cutting
Install new piping to include cooling/heating lines & related heating lines & related components as well as steam lines and related equipment or plumbing related equipment as needed or scheduled
Repair or replace plumbing related equipment or piping to include cooling/heating lines & related components as well as steam lines and related equipment as needed or scheduled
Maintain all waste and vent lines in compliance to national and state plumbing codes and governing agencies such as TJC and NFPA
Maintain all compliance records
Report any repairs or maintenance needed throughout the building or grounds dealing with area of specialization or outside area of specialization
Responsible for all hospital owned tools; ensure tools are in safe operating condition; report any unsafe tools needing repair to the supervisor
Maintain and clean tools and shop area; maintain shop area in operational condition
Assist other maintenance departments as required by supervisor
Participate in cross-training programs that will help carry out duties throughout the department
Keep supervisor informed of his/her location at all times
Qualifications Related Education and Experience may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis.
Education:
High School or GED Equivalent
Experience:
3 years directly related experience
No preferred experience (Nonessential)
Credentials:
Med Gas Certificate within 1 year of employment
Journeyman Plumber License in New Mexico
Valid New Mexico Driver's License
UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit within 60 days
Physical Conditions: Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Working conditions:
Mod exposure to chemicals/dangerous equip/materials \>Subject to random alcohol and substance testing May be required or is required to perform on-call duties
Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
