Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministry (TPOM) Youth Engagement Specialist The Youth Engagement Specialist is a vital member of TPOM’s team who is responsible for assisting the Director of Community and Youth Engagement. helping coordinate youth-centered initiatives, and fostering community connections that support TPOM’s mission to serve children of incarcerated parents, their families, and incarcerated youth.

This position requires a strong passion for working with justice-impacted and at-risk youth from vulnerable backgrounds. The Youth Engagement Specialist will work closely with the Director of Community and Youth Engagement and external partners.

Job Responsibilities Juvenile Detention Facility

Maintain and develop programming within the youth detention facilities.

Volunteer recruitment and development for the juvenile justice facilities.

Assist with annual events at the juvenile justice facilities.

Attend partnership meetings at juvenile detention facilities.

Camp Cope and Youth Events

Ensure smooth operations, effective communication, and logistical execution for youth events.

Plan, organize, and oversee the TPOM summer camp, Camp Cope.

Attend events such as the Annual Camp Director Conference, Prison Fellowship Director Calls (virtual), and other community engagement events.

Submit camp reports and Angel Tree updates to Prison Fellowship.

Promote youth events on the company website and social media accounts.

Support camp facility operations by reviewing and executing campground contracts.

Coordinate camp outreach by contacting Angel Tee families, engaging past and new campers, and maintaining monthly communication.

Recruit and train volunteers (e.g., counselors).

Assist with curriculum, camp booklets, guest speakers, and all camp activities.

Secure meals, food planning, and t-shirts (in coordination with the Director of Community and Youth Engagement).

Use Apricot Access for camper registration and reports.

Attend monthly planning meetings related to camp and youth retreats.

Development and Fundraising

Support the development of annual fundraising strategies and goals for the TPOM Youth Department.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.

Understands and supports the Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministry mission.

Ability to multitask and work both independently and with supervision, on-site and remotely.

Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Meet, Slides).

Proficiency using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet tight deadlines.

Professional demeanor in interactions with youth, families, and partners.

Ability to pass a background check

Preferred

2–3 years of experience working with at-risk or justice-impacted youth.

1–2 years of experience in event and camp planning.

Volunteer recruitment and team management experience.

Experience using Apricot software or similar data reporting systems.

Knowledge of juvenile justice systems and practices.

Familiarity with community resources and services for youth.
