Operations Specialist in Animal Care

ensures proper animal care and husbandry for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You will be the primary resource regarding animal care and maintenance, support the PCC’s budgeted sales and shrink goals, and ensure merchandising and inventory strategies are executed with a focus on companion animals and aquatic life. You will collaborate with the sales team to meet guest and pet needs, and contribute to a positive Pet Care Center team environment. Position Responsibilities

Have a strong interest in animal welfare and possess a high level of knowledge of companion animal and aquatic care. Ensure that all companion animals and aquatic life in the PCC are receiving appropriate care, including maintenance, incident reports and hourly animal health checks as required. Process register transactions to create a great guest experience. Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed. Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed to create a great presentation for guests. Complete and apply training programs to maintain expertise and educate other PCC partners in animal care and maintenance. Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration. Adhere to established operational guidelines, policies, and procedures. Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed. Act as primary resource for guests and PCC partners regarding animal education and care. Efficiently order companion animals, aquatic life, supplies and merchandise in partnership with the sales team to maximize sales, margin, and inventory. Analyze department inventory data and recommend areas for improvement. Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the professional image of the animal habitats and aquatic areas. Ensure proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals. Verify animal-related maintenance tasks are completed as outlined on Maintenance Schedules. Participate in completion of all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts. Adhere to safety and loss prevention procedures. Performs additional duties and projects as required or assigned with or without regular supervision. Other Essential Duties

Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life. Knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life with aptitude for sales techniques. Professional appearance and demeanor, genuine interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills due to interaction with the public, PCC partners and external veterinary partners. Certification

Completing and maintaining the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required in this role. Education/Skills

High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Proficiency in mathematics and basic accounting relationships and exceptional communication skills. Supervisory Responsibility

Ensures that the Pet Care Center is opened and/or closed in accordance with established procedures for SFS operations. Adheres to and promotes established safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets. Work Environment

Most duties are indoors; occasional travel with guests or to veterinary visits. This role requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods. Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends may be required. Equal Opportunity Employer
