Position Overview The Senior Director of Strategy & Innovation plays a critical role in advancing Lifelong’s mission by identifying, shaping, and advancing strategic initiatives that strengthen the organization’s long‑term sustainability and impact. This role focuses on program expansion and development, diversifying revenue streams, and advancing innovative approaches to service delivery and organizational growth in close partnership with executive and program leadership.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Senior Director of Strategy & Innovation works closely with the Executive Leadership Team to identify, assess, design, and deliver growth, including new revenue‑generating partnerships and services, as well as the expansion of existing core programs and geographic operations. This position is responsible for early‑stage initiative design, feasibility analysis, and strategic alignment to ensure new ideas are well‑positioned for successful implementation.

The Senior Director of Strategy & Innovation serves as a strategic partner to senior agency and program leadership, providing analysis, recommendations, and cross‑departmental coordination to support informed decision‑making and long‑term organizational success.

This regular, full‑time, exempt, non‑union role is based in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle, with onsite presence required at least three days per week (Tuesday – Thursday).

Qualifications Essential Duties

Strategic Leadership & Opportunity Development

Identify, evaluate, design, and deliver strategic growth opportunities to expand existing programs and develop new programs aligned with Lifelong’s mission and long‑term goals.

Lead exploration of innovative service models, partnerships, pilots, and funding strategies that support organizational growth and sustainability.

Analyze funding priorities, community needs, and policy or system changes to inform strategic direction and opportunity selection.

Initiative Design & Feasibility

Translate strategic opportunities into clearly defined initiatives, including program concepts, scope, goals, potential partners, and anticipated outcomes.

Assess feasibility, organizational readiness, and resource implications for proposed initiatives, including staffing, operational capacity, and financial sustainability.

Prepare executive‑level briefs, recommendations, pitches, and decision materials for review by the Chief of Staff, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team.

Cross‑Agency Collaboration

Partner with the Executive Leadership Team and other program leaders to brainstorm, refine, and advance strategic initiatives.

Coordinate cross‑functional input to ensure alignment across programs, operations, external relations, and finance.

Facilitate structured conversations and working groups to move ideas from concept to approval.

Partnerships & Strategic Growth

Identify and assess opportunities for strategic partnerships, collaborations, and other growth opportunities that strengthen Lifelong’s impact.

Support early‑stage due diligence and readiness work for complex initiatives, including partnerships or potential mergers or acquisitions.

Represent Lifelong in strategic discussions with external partners as appropriate.

Implementation Preparation & Oversight

Support the transition of approved initiatives to Project Management and program teams for implementation.

Serve as a strategic sponsor for initiatives as they move into execution, providing guidance, alignment, and problem‑solving support.

Establish metrics and indicators to evaluate initiative performance and inform continuous improvement.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, public health, nonprofit management, strategy, or a related field, or a combination of related education and work experience.

Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in strategy, innovation, business development, program leadership, consulting, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives from concept through approval or launch.

Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, social services, or public sector environments strongly preferred.

Proven ability to assess opportunities, develop business cases or initiative frameworks, and support executive decision making.

Experience working closely with senior leadership and external partners.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and requires extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required to support office or event needs. The role may also involve occasional attendance at events or activities that take place outside of normal office settings or standard business hours.
