As a Banking Service Professional, the Personal Banker will provide effective support of sales and service activities within the banking office, developing new business by educating existing and potential clients and exemplifying Valley's quality service standards. The role includes a variety of banking solutions by analyzing needs, recommending solutions, and selling bank products and services to existing and potential clients. Perform routine banking transactions while supporting the Market Manager in achieving quality service and complying with operational procedures.
Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service in accordance with Valley's mission statement, engaging customers with friendly and professional service.
Maintain knowledge of all bank products and services, educate and demonstrate them to customers, and cross-sell various products and services.
Present a confident and professional demeanor to establish trust and gain knowledge from the customer. Analyze needs and recommend appropriate products and services.
Meet with customers to analyze financial needs and maximize sales opportunities; offer all bank products and assist with other service needs, open new accounts (checking, savings, certificates of deposit, IRAs), discuss and sell loan products, and promote online and mobile banking.
Achieve service quality standards, participate in the sales referral process, and coach and mentor branch staff members.
Perform all required customer transactions, use technology effectively, balance a cash box, and support customers in the use of Teller Scanning Equipment, Cash Recycling and Dispensing machines, and Coin Machines.
Act as Vault Teller, ensuring branch cash adequacy for daily transactions, and assist in ordering, shipping, controlling, and distributing currency.
Assist in community events and support CRA initiatives, activities, and programs.
Report all significant matters, issues, and unusual customer activity to the manager; maintain personal knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements.
Maintain knowledge of the bank's Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures.
Required Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to write correspondence and accurately demonstrate products and services to customers.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact, and diplomacy with both customers and employees.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills to resolve complex customer issues.
Ability to make sound decisions, including on‑the‑spot decisions affecting customer transactions, balancing satisfaction with risk.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled form.
Deep understanding of retail banking and strong customer service skills, engaging customers in discussions about products and services.
Detail‑oriented, strong organizational skills, and a high degree of accuracy.
Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficient computer skills.
Required Experience
High School diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of experience in customer service, retail sales, hospitality, or a similar role.
Preferred Experience
Business services experience in branch banking and knowledge of branch operations or successful completion of a Valley Retail training program.
Experience with FIS/IBS (Integrated Banking Solutions).
Associate's or Bachelor's degree with a concentration in accounting, business, finance, economics, or a related field.
