As our next Diesel Mechanic, you’ll be at the heart of our mission—delivering essential services that help improve public safety, enhance environmental quality, and keep things running smoothly. You’ll join a team that values hard work, safety, and teamwork. Assembly & Build:
Construct mechanical systems or components based on blueprints, technical specifications, or instructions. Follow proper torque specs, sequences, and ensure all parts are correctly installed. Inspection & Troubleshooting:
Examine equipment to identify mechanical issues, visually inspect parts, listen for abnormal sounds, check system performance, and diagnose using tools. Diagnostics & Reporting:
Use diagnostic tools and systems to determine root causes of malfunctions and maintain accurate records of findings and actions taken. Repairs & Reliability:
Restore function or improve reliability by replacing or repairing parts with attention to safety and long-term durability. Preventive Maintenance:
Regularly scheduled maintenance to prevent breakdowns, including checking, cleaning, adjusting, and replacing parts. Lubrication & Fluid Handling:
Manage lubrication and fluids critical to operation; apply grease/oil, check and replace fluids, recognize leaks or contamination. Maintenance Advising:
Communicate maintenance needs and best practices to prevent premature wear or breakdowns. Auxiliary Repairs:
Perform specialized repairs such as hydraulic system maintenance, painting, electrical fixes, or minor body work. Heavy Equipment:
Service and repair large machinery (e.g., sweepers, loaders, backhoes) and understand their systems and operating conditions. Regular & Predictable Attendance:
Report to work on time and as scheduled, with minimal unexcused absences, and adhere to start times and ends of shifts. Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 8+ years of proven experience as a level A Mechanic Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers) Ability to follow established procedures, read instruction manuals, and wiring schematics Must have basic hand tools for daily use Commitment to adhering to health and safety regulations Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Strong physical stamina and good overall fitness Positive attitude and reliable attendance High school diploma preferred; certification from a vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus ASE certifications are preferred but not required Safety
