The Southeast Power Trader will actively manage buying/selling of power and related derivatives in the Southeastern U.S., optimizing portfolio value, managing risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor and analyze Real-Time and Day-Ahead power market dynamics, including supply-demand balance, price signals, and regulatory developments. Develop and execute short-term optimization strategies for physical and financial power positions to optimize profitability and cost. Execute trades across markets (e.g., day-ahead, intraday, balancing) using trading platforms and automated systems. Manage risk exposures: monitor positions, enforce risk limits, and implement mitigation strategies. Maintain detailed P&L tracking, activity reports, and trend analysis; present findings to internal stakeholders. Collaborate closely with counterparties, other desks (e.g., origination, credit, operations), and procurement teams. Provide mentorship or guidance to junior traders and support process optimization. Required Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or similar. Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in power trading, ideally within physical and short-term markets. Strong quantitative skills, familiarity with modeling and pricing analytic
Preferred Qualification:
Working knowledge of Southeast regional markets (e.g., regional ISOs, pipeline dynamics). Experience with trading software, intraday platforms, and automated execution tools. High stress tolerance, excellent decision-making, and communication skill Location:
