The Senior Associate will play a key role within Gray Capital, a strategic investment fund with interests in real estate, private equity, and venture. You will report to the Managing Partner of Gray Capital and the Vice President of Strategic Corporate investment and will be an integral part of the growth of the enterprise with a path to growing responsibility. The Senior Associate will evaluate new acquisition and strategic investment opportunities for their risks and possible returns, driven by detailed financial analysis as well as working actively on strategies designed to support the existing investment portfolio.
Overview
The Senior Associate will evaluate acquisition and strategic investment opportunities, perform detailed financial analysis, valuation and modeling, and support investment strategies across Gray Capital’s portfolio. Responsibilities
Work directly with the managing partner and vice president in vetting/tracking potential acquisition candidates and strategic investment opportunities. Conduct industry, market and company-specific research. Perform financial analysis, valuation and financial modeling of companies and transactions. Build relationships and maintain contact with established and prospective deal sponsors, clients, influencers, and professional advisors to vet and proactively generate deal flow. Prepare for, document, and lead diligence calls handling professionally, with courtesy and curiosity. Lead pitch calls with prospective investments. Take calls and meetings on behalf of the managing partner and professionally represent Gray Capital in these calls and meetings. Perform market research and develop and maintain reports on Gray Capital’s targeted investment themes as well as develop market landscapes and lists of companies to be contacted. Refine existing database to track and monitor sourcing activities; log new opportunities into CRM database. Develop your network of other investors and strategic industry connections to access deal flow and proprietary information. Be a visible presence for Gray Capital at local events and at conferences; participate in outreach initiatives to bolster the firm’s reach and reputation. Travel to our remote offices/projects across the country as needed and work closely with team members across the enterprise, supporting investment strategies. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
An undergraduate degree with a high GPA from a selective four-year university with a transcript offering evidence of strong performance in both quantitative and verbal areas of study. MBA preferred. Three to eight years of post-undergraduate work experience in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, real estate, venture, or corporate development. Strong skills in writing reports, proposals, and white papers demonstrated ability to write precisely, effectively, and persuasively. Ability to speak and write clearly. Poised, pleasant, polished, professional, and able to interact professionally and effectively with managers, clients, and C-Suite executives. Proactive attitude with a can-do mindset. Ability to travel as needed and able to work both downtown Chicago and potentially other offices/projects across the country. Maturity and integrity – must be trustworthy with confidential information. Strong sense of urgency and a positive, proactive desire to support a broad range of initiatives and tasks. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities. Problem solving and analytical, metrics-driven approach to solutions. Seniority level
