Waste Connections is seeking a skilled

Experienced Diesel Mechanic

to join our team in Wichita, Kansas. This position will oversee our fleet, ensuring the efficient maintenance and repair of our diesel vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in diesel engines, self-motivation, and a commitment to safety and quality. We offer extremely competitive pay with monthly safety bonuses and a $5k stay-on bonus.

Responsibilities

Oversee the scheduling of maintenance and repair tasks for diesel vehicles and equipment, prioritizing work orders to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability.

Conduct diagnostic assessments and troubleshooting of diesel engines, drivetrain systems, and related components to identify issues and develop appropriate repair solutions.

Perform complex repairs and maintenance tasks on diesel engines, including but not limited to engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and hydraulic system troubleshooting.

Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies, promoting a culture of safety awareness and adherence among team members.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts usage, labor hours, and equipment history, using digital systems and documentation procedures.

Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in diesel engine maintenance and repair, and share knowledge with team members as appropriate.

Install injectors, pistons, liners, camshafts, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fan hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts.

Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the overall operation of the maintenance department.

Qualifications

Technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy diesel mechanic.

Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment, including computerized diagnostic software, to troubleshoot and repair diesel engines and related systems. Preferred systems include Cummins Insite and Mack Tech Tool.

Strong knowledge of diesel engine components, systems, and operating principles, with the ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

Valid driver\'s license with a clean driving record required; CDL preferred.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
