The Hardscape / Civil Superintendent at Pleasant Places plays a critical leadership role in overseeing complex construction and hardscape installations—especially on high-profile commercial or municipal job sites where schedule, quality, and safety are non-negotiable.
Job Description / Role Summary
Key Responsibilities
Supervise daily on-site construction activities including grading, retaining walls, pavers, flatwork, drainage, curbing, etc. Lead multiple hardscape crews or subcontractors across active job sites Interpret and enforce project plans, blueprints, and specifications Develop and manage short-term work plans and look-aheads Coordinate logistics with general contractor (GC) superintendents and project managers Schedule labor, materials, and equipment to minimize downtime Perform inspections for quality assurance and punch list readiness Enforce company and OSHA safety procedures; lead daily toolbox talks Communicate site status and issues clearly with project managers and leadership Adjust workflow and problem-solve based on site conditions and changes Qualifications & Expectations
5–10+ years of experience in hardscape, site work, or civil construction Strong understanding of grading, drainage, base prep, and hardscape installation Able to read and interpret civil/site plans and technical drawings Proven ability to manage both self-perform and subcontractor labor Competent in using scheduling tools and mobile reporting apps Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record Ideal Candidate Profile
