Overview
Under general direction, the Peer will work with the team to provide community-based support with a rehabilitation and recovery focus using shared lived experiences in NYS OASAS regulated programs. The Peer Worker will work as a fully integrated team member providing individual face-to-face services in the client’s home or community as specified in the service protocols. This work supports the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.
Responsibilities
Provides in-person individualized support to individuals with mental health and/or substance use diagnoses.
Serves as a role model, mentor, and advocate to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
Provides strength-based rehabilitative and recovery-oriented services individually and as part of a team.
Establishes trusting relationships with clients based on mutuality and positive regard during outreach and meetings.
Supports clients in developing and implementing personalized recovery plans aligned with their needs and the Plan of Care.
Shares personal experiences to foster hope and recovery.
Coordinates services through collaboration with staff, providers, and family or friends of clients.
Assists clients with entitlements and concrete services, advocating on their behalf.
Participates in weekly supervision, staff meetings, and in-service trainings.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
At least two years of experience or volunteer work in a recovery-oriented setting
Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or CRPA-Provisional for OASAS programs OR New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS) for OMH programs
Knowledge of substance use disorder recovery process
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
Availability to travel within the catchment area and navigate public transportation
Commitment to recovery-oriented systems of care
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow procedures
