The Analyst Energy Portfolio Analytics position supports the functions of the Wholesale Power Solutions department of the Asset Management division. The role requires research and analysis to support planning, oversight, and decision-making for both current and future CPS Energy generation resources. Management of data and information, as well as the ability to communicate and present analysis and results is required.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Provides analysis support on various type of projects such as solar, wind, and energy storage resources

Assists in the periodic development and execution of Requests for Proposals for various energy resources

Supports the negotiation and execution of existing or future CPS Energy resources

Researches market information and works with CPS Energy internal subject matter experts and consultants to support analysis of current initiatives

Presents analysis methodologies and results to internal stakeholders, providing recommendations as needed

Performs tasks with moderate supervision and support from Asset Management leadership and other senior team members

Assists in implementing short-term and long-term vision and associated strategies to guide CPS Energy’s long-term wholesale power sales.

Supports activities associated with negotiations for new, or for renewals / extensions of existing, long-term wholesale purchase or sales contracts.

Administer contract compliance activities associated with all long-term wholesale power purchase and sales agreements.

Assists in tracking and assessment of zero emission resources, including existing contracts

Assists in establishing the strategy and activities related to procurement and disposition of our Renewable Energy Credit (REC) portfolio

Assists in preparing recommendations to Energy Portfolio Strategy Committee for approval

Consult with Energy Settlements Accounting on settlement issues related to zero emissions resources or long-term wholesale power contracts

Learns and stays abreast of the energy market environment, key energy policies, and regulations that may impact cost, planning and decision-making for generation resources

Represents CPS Energy in daily customer interactions as well as occasional industry outings, events, and/or conferences

Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities Ability to learn and understand basic principles of electricity production, power plant operations, and electricity and fuel markets.

Ability to gain knowledge of the CPS Energy Resource Portfolio and other Resources in the long-range plan or under consideration.

Ability to learn and gain knowledge of ERCOT Market principles and protocols.

Ability to learn and gain knowledge of Utility Principles.

Ability to work on cross-functional teams.

Experience in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited university, particular an MBA

Advanced analytics experience (Excel, Python, Tableau, Alteryx)

Knowledge and experience in energy production cost modeling using tools such as Aurora and Gen Trader

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering or related field from an accredited university. OR Critical analytical experience demonstrated in a similar position.

Required Certifications The work environment includes extensive indoor work, computer usage, manual dexterity, talking on the phone and in-person, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.

Must have the ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, and other business-related events.

Physical Demands Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
