Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is a multi‑campus community college located in Troy, New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs across three schools—Business & Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, and STEM—serving nearly 9,000 students each year. Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and at least 2 years of academic counseling/advising experience in education or a related field.
Preferred: Master’s Degree and additional experience.
Preferred: Experience with non‑traditional advisement delivery (e.g., online).
Duties
Provide academic advisement to students in all departments via phone, e‑mail, web/video conferencing, and in‑person.
Acquaint students with general educational requirements, college regulations, services, and opportunities.
Assist students in career, program/major, and course selection decisions.
Counsel students about the consequences of course withdrawal, insufficient progress, change of major, and withdrawal from the institution.
Assist students in evaluating or re‑evaluating progress toward established goals and educational plans.
Refer students to other institutional resources and services as appropriate.
Assist with advisor training and development of advising resources.
Participate in and provide administrative support for retention programs and projects.
Evaluate transfer credit in coordination with the appropriate department chairperson.
Maintain records and generate reports related to program and project operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned; evening and weekend hours may be required.
Compensation & Benefits 12‑month position with a salary of $44,000 for a Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of experience, or $47,000 for a Master’s degree. Benefits include low‑cost health insurance and a generous leave policy.
