Business Development Specialist

This role focuses on bringing in new Select Employee Groups (SEGs) and new members through a combination of in-person engagement, virtual outreach, and digital marketing strategies. The Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving HACU’s growth by developing, nurturing, and expanding relationships with potential and existing members. The Specialist ensures exceptional member experiences while promoting HACU’s products and services.
Key Responsibilities Member and Staff Service
Deliver exceptional internal and external service.
Maintain up-to-date product knowledge to guide members effectively.
Act as a trusted resource for members and HR/benefits contacts.
New SEG and Member Development
Identify and prospect potential SEGs within HACU’s field of membership using CRM tools, data insights, and networking.
Conduct outreach via email, social media, phone, virtual meetings, and in-person visits.
Represent HACU at new hire orientations, community events, employee appreciation programs, and SEG associations.
Onboard new members by assisting with applications and explaining products and services.
Build and maintain strong relationships with HR and benefits executives to uncover new business opportunities.
Account Development and Growth
Manage and strengthen relationships with existing SEGs and members.
Review current accounts to identify opportunities for cross‑selling and expanding engagement.
Deliver group presentations, workshops, and educational sessions both in‑person and virtually.
Coordinate initiatives and events to drive membership growth.
Track and maintain all account activity, communications, and follow‑ups in CRM tools.
Collaboration and Execution
Work closely with internal teams to ensure seamless service, promotions, and problem resolution.
Maintain marketing materials, digital content, and promotional items for events and campaigns.
Use analytics and feedback to refine outreach strategies and improve results.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist in special projects.
This position is based at our headquarters but requires flexibility and agility to travel as needed to support relationship management and partner needs. Travel may include overnights and weekends.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Excellent presentation skills, comfortable in front of groups of all sizes.
Proficiency in consultative selling, lead generation, and closing deals. Ability to understand needs and offer tailored solutions.
Motivated, self‑starter.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed goals.
Qualifications
Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or 3 to 5 years of marketing or business development experience.
Proficient in computer and software applications, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CRM systems, and video conferencing tools.
