Typical duties include, but are not limited to
Assist with recreation programming for people of all ages and create a positive, safe and nurturing environment for all, focusing on people with disabilities.
Communicate with park staff about participant’s needs/inclusion plan.
Provide direct support to individuals with disabilities and other participants of recreation programming.
Contribute to developing a supportive, accessible and accommodating environment.
Connect with the Inclusion Team and Coordinator to ensure accurate and up‑to‑date information is available to all team members.
Preferred candidates may have the following experience, credentials, or qualities
Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Experience leading or assisting with organized games and/or activities.
Educational or academic credit in Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation or closely related fields (i.e. recreation, youth studies, elementary education, etc.) or equivalent experience.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and flexibility skills
Background investigation and medical examinations required A criminal background check is necessary for positions with this job title. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain his/her criminal history information in connection with the position sought. An applicant who does not sign the informed consent will not be considered further for the position. The MPRB will be in compliance with Minnesota’s Department of Human Services fingerprinting requirements. View the MPRB Background Check Policy [PDF].
Compensation and Benefits $17.00-$20.00 per hour based on experience and qualification.
You are eligible to receive sick and safe time per the Minneapolis City Ordinance and Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time, and will earn one (1) hour of sick and safe leave for every thirty (30) hours worked. Public employees will be enrolled in statutorily required Public Employers Retirement Association (PERA) pension contributions if/when eligible. This position is not eligible for other benefits.
Hours Part‑time position 10‑25 hours per week.
Typically varied, Monday through Friday.
Some weekend and evening hours may be available.
Work will be at various parks throughout the Minneapolis Park system.
Specific hours determined by the hiring manager.
