Overview This role leads structural steel projects from award through closeout, with full accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and coordination. You’ll translate contract and design intent into a clear execution plan, guide internal teams and external partners, and step in quickly when issues arise. A strong working knowledge of steel fabrication, erection, and shop/field coordination is essential.
What You’ll Do
Own the job from start to finish.
Review contracts, drawings, and specifications, then convert them into an executable plan the team can follow.
Prepare projects for success.
Break down drawings with an understanding of fabrication and erection methods, identify risks early, and manage RFIs and clarifications throughout the job.
Oversee detailing.
Coordinate with detailers, review drawings for accuracy, and ensure both approval sets and shop‑ready documents are correct before release.
Manage purchasing and budget.
Procure materials and subcontracted scopes, control job costs, and look for opportunities to protect or improve margins.
Drive execution.
Coordinate between shop and field, perform or verify site measurements as needed, and be present on site when required to keep work moving.
Lead communication.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and partners, handling schedules, updates, changes, billing, and issue resolution with urgency and professionalism.
What Matters Most
5+ years of hands‑on experience in structural steel fabrication, erection, or steel‑focused project management
Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and details
Proven ownership of project outcomes—schedule, cost, and qualityComfortable coordinating across office, shop, and field environments
Clear, proactive communicator who can manage relationships and expectations
Organized, detail‑oriented, and decisive under pressure
Working knowledge of common project and office software (project management platforms, spreadsheets, document review tools)
Additional Notes
Periodic job‑site visits are part of the role; comfort working around active construction sites and elevated steel is important.
Schedule flexibility may be required based on project needs.
