Overview Clark Wood are looking for an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to join a growing team of chartered accountants in Taunton. This is a hands‑on role overseeing day‑to‑day bookkeeping across a varied portfolio of clients, while supporting and supervising a small bookkeeping team to ensure work is delivered accurately and on time.
You will play a key role in maintaining high standards, assisting with month‑end and year‑end processes, and ensuring all financial records are compliant with HMRC requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day bookkeeping for a diverse client portfolio
Review and manage work produced by a small bookkeeping team
Use Xero and QuickBooks to maintain accurate financial records
Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns
Assist with month‑end and year‑end procedures
Liaise with managers and clients as required
Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and internal deadlines
What We’re Looking For
Minimum of 2 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or multi‑client environment
Strong working knowledge of Xero (essential)
Experience with QuickBooks (advantageous)
Proven experience preparing VAT and CIS returns
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Confident working in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities
Comfortable supporting or leading a small team
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Qualifications & Skills
AAT Level 3 (or higher), or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential)
Good Excel skills
A professional, accurate, and methodical approach
Commitment to integrity and ongoing professional development
