Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Fort Dodge, IA
Georgia Pacific’s Building Products division seeks a self‑directed, motivated individual with experience with heavy mobile equipment to join our Fort Dodge, IA Gypsum facility as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. The role involves servicing and repair of heavy equipment, machinery, and job site vehicles, managing a changing workload driven by quarry production needs, and working both indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
What You Will Do
Diagnose and maintain a variety of heavy equipment.
Assess equipment using diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices or operate and inspect equipment to diagnose defects and formulate a repair strategy.
Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep service records.
Perform housekeeping as needed within the ME shop to ensure the area is clean and organized.
Lift objects up to 50 lbs.
Utilize computer software for record keeping, documentation, and ordering parts.
Basic Qualifications
At least one year of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, including haul trucks, excavators, loaders, dozers, skid loaders, surface miner, man baskets, etc.
Preferred Experience
One year or more of mining experience.
Experience working with construction and/or mining equipment.
Experience operating continuous surface mining equipment.
