Position Description Responsible for the oversight of shop activities and supervision of staff performing tasks related to the fabrication, assembly and welding of ductwork, dampers and other items required to support the work being performed at various construction sites.
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to assigning tasks and ordering materials to meet schedules, organizing training, maintaining shop equipment, assessing and planning workload, assisting in the preparation of cost estimates for fabricated items and the recruiting and performance assessment of staff.

Essential Functions
Highly proficient in all forms of metal forming techniques and knowledgeable in the materials used including metal, aluminum and stainless steel
Responsible for upholding SMACNA and VHV Build Standards
Experienced in the reading and interpretation of drawings and sketches for items to be fabricated.
Proficient in development of hand developed sketches/drawings necessary to perform shop fabrication from information provided by field personnel
Manage the ordering and delivery of materials and tools necessary to perform the fabrication and assembly of all shop work
Ensure communication with VDC team, project managers, and job foremen to assess opportunities for shop fabrication work and develop plan for related workload
Regularly meet with Labor Coordinator to plan for resources required to meet current and future labor needs related to schedule
Responsible for safe usage of lulls, forklifts, straps and chains
Oversee quality control measures to ensure all shop work is free of defects and in conformance with specifications provided
Proficient in the set up and operation of hand and power tools common to the sheet metal trade
Ensure timely delivery of fabricated materials to the field
Identify production fabrication equipment required to meet current needs and investigate new technology that would enhance shop and field efficiency
Knowledge of relevant safety equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to meet company, VOSHA and OSHA standards
Inspect equipment on a regular basis and ensure maintenance is performed as necessary
Ensure maintenance and upkeep of the company building and grounds
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
OSHA 30 certification
Five plus years experience in mechanical and HVAC industry
Five plus years experience in welding industry and related certifications
Possess basic computer skills with a good understanding of shop-related software programs
Experience in management and supervision of staff
Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills
Be able to mentor team members and assist in their development
Ability to quantify and track productivity and to identify and introduce measures for improvement
Strong understanding of the function and operation of all shop equipment
Possess strong practical problem-solving skills
Ensure conformance to all company, customer, State and Federal safety regulations
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications, architectural drawings and construction documentation
Ensure all applicable local and state codes and standards are being adhered to
Ability to recognize and report all unsafe working conditions.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to read and use various measuring devices
Knowledge of relevant safety equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to meet company, VOSHA and OSHA standards
Adhere to VHV’s policies and procedures while representing and promoting the Company in a professional manner

Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
Workers must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction)
Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects
Lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 75 lbs (average lift less than 50 lbs)
Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist
The employee occasionally works outside and is occasionally exposed to cold, wet and or humid conditions
Work regularly occurs at jobsites where exposure to construction related hazards exist, including working near moving mechanical parts, working in high and precarious places and confined spaces
Wear the Proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, VHV logo preferably on the work shirt or jacket (depending on weather), safety glasses, gloves, and your hand tool bag
