We are currently hiring for a
Maintenance Worker/Utility Mechanic I
position with our Water Pump Stations team.
Based upon candidates meeting the minimum qualifications and their relevant experience*, the starting salary for these positions is:
Maintenance Worker, G.15 - $35,006.40 annually, $16.83 hourly
Utility Mechanic I, G.17 - $38,584.00 annually, $18.55 hourly
*Candidates will be evaluated based on past work history/job experience and interview performance. Actual position (Maintenance Worker or Utility Mechanic I) will be determined on the qualifications of the selected applicant and made part of the job offer. Offers made post-interview are not guaranteed to be made at the Utility Mechanic I level.
Special Requirements for Public Utilities, Operations & Maintenance Must be available to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, standby and overtime when required to meet operational needs as we are a 24/7/365 department. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status. This position may require that incumbents wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, or other designated safety attire and equipment in designated areas of risk. Specific requirements will be determined and communicated by the employee's supervisor based on position assigned.
What will you be doing? As an employee on the Water Pump Station team you will:
Work in confined and elevated spaces (100 ft.+)
Climb ladders while performing heavy manual labor, including heavy lifting in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repairs of treated water pumping stations, water storage facilities and related equipment
Operate non-CDL motor vehicles
Display knowledge and proper use of basic hand tools, common maintenance and manual labor tasks and the use of associated tools
Lift, without assistance, heavy articles that weigh approximately 50 pounds
Assist with the breakdown and overhaul of large pumps and valves
Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting of utility problems/mechanical pump failures and/or pump malfunctions
Generate/follow computerized work orders (iPad), monitor, and respond to alarms at Water Pumping Stations and prioritize tasks to accomplish repairs
Prepare written and computerized documents for work activities
Follow oral and written instructions and safety precautions/practices for construction work
Attend safety and job-related trainings as assigned
Performs other job duties as determined by the supervisor based on workload and department needs
