Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, providing training and support to enhance skills and ensure high performance.

Oversee daily operations to maximize productivity, improve efficiency, and meet underwriting turn times and SLAs.

Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and conduct regular performance reviews with measurable goals.

Ensure underwriting quality through consistent quality checks and compliance with regulatory and company guidelines.

Act as the escalation point for complex or high-risk loan files and support second-level loan reviews.

Manage team pipelines during absences, ensuring uninterrupted loan processing.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and company policies to ensure all mortgage applications are underwritten in accordance with current standards.

Additional responsibilities related to business needs.

Qualifications & Skills

5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience required.

3+ years of management experience in mortgage operations required.

Wholesale underwriting experience required.

Proficiency with Encompass LOS required.

Knowledge of home loans and residential mortgages such as conventional, VA, FHA, USDA, Non-QM loans, and loan products.

DE/CHUMS and LAPP/SARS certifications required.

Knowledgeable in automated underwriting systems and Microsoft office.

Proven leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate a team to meet goals and maintain high standards.

Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
