Job Summary Assist journeyman in planning, lay‑out, installation, testing and performing all process requirements for installation of instrumentation in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Use appropriate hand and power tools (wrench, screwdriver, power drill, pipe cutters, threaders, tubing benders, and welding instruments) to properly measure, cut, assemble and install instrumentation, air distribution systems, process tubing and support systems, and install all other items in accordance with applicable plans and specifications.

Test all installed work and make necessary repairs or adjustments; install and connect power supply for instrumentation; test all installed work and make necessary repairs, if any.

Help perform hydrostatic and pneumatic testing of pipe systems.

Perform tube identification and testing (continuity).

Install multi-tubing, junction boxes, and hand valves.

Layout, fabricate and install instrumentation system, hard‑drawn copper tubing, fittings and steam tracing.

Perform layout and mounting of panel instruments and devices.

Perform pipe assembly for socket weld pipe tubing fittings and for butt‑weld pipe and fittings.

Use and care of hand and power tools.

Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.

Engage with work team to ensure zero injuries.

Understand that safety of crew is paramount; do not compromise safety for job importance.

Watch for hazards and report any concerns to supervisor or safety professional.

Use stop work authority if needed until issue resolved.

Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.

Participate in all pre‑job work planning and safety discussions; identify safety hazards and take corrective action.

Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., backup alarms, smoke odor, warning tags, sirens).

Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures.

Attend site‑specific training and follow all procedures as outlined.

Follow established safety rules and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Use effective verbal and written communication skills.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.

Listen to co‑workers, giving full attention to suggestions, concerns, and recommendations, asking questions and providing feedback when appropriate.

Coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers on the job.

Actively participate in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities with co‑workers in your craft when provided.

Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.

Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including P and ID, orthographic and isometric drawings.

Visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions.

Assist in planning, installing or repairing systems in accordance with plans and specifications.

Assist journeymen in layout work and learn to perform layout independently.

Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.

Notify supervision of any hazards and utilize safety stop work authority as needed.

Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost‑saving measures.

Take corrective actions as needed and report any issues to supervision.

If certified, ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and in good working order; complete daily inspections for utilized equipment.

Comply with company code of conduct and jobsite policies.

Preferred Qualifications

NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program

Minimum Qualifications At least 2 years of experience working as an instrument fitter or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training, and a working knowledge of the Instrument Fitter craft. Developing knowledge of fabrication and installation of primary piping and tubing for instrument power supply; use of testing and measuring instruments; working with low and high pressure tubing/piping systems; and welding for fabrication of supports and brackets. Ability to understand and follow directions. Must have all necessary tools (see Instrument Fitter Helper Tool List). Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands Physical Demands:

Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas.

Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.

Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.

Requires repetitive movement.

Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.

Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

Work Environment:

Typical construction site environment.

Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions.

Requires working in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.

Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.

Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.

Work around hazardous equipment.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
