Optisys
About Optisys
Optisys is an innovative antenna technology company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We combine advanced RF design with metal additive manufacturing to create highly integrated, market-leading solutions for commercial aerospace and defense.
Position Summary As Optisys continues to grow, we’re augmenting our mechanical engineering capabilities to drive automated CAD across our design and manufacturing processes. We’re seeking a highly capable Mechanical Engineer who can design quickly, drawing on a deep understanding of mechanical physics, to come to compliant designs for space and airborne applications. Will have access to analytical tools such as Ansys and needs to know how to simplify models to drive design decisions quickly. At the same time, they should be considering the process to re‑design the next version more automatically through software scripting.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a pioneering environment — someone who’s comfortable working with a wide‑open design space but still maximizes the re‑use of previous lessons learned. This person is interested in learning new tools and techniques quickly and communicates clearly with technical teams and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical design and analysis of RF components and systems.
Work closely with RF, manufacturing, and software engineers to converge on solutions designed to take advantage of metal additive manufacturing and be scalable.
Analysis skills include tolerance, thermal, shock, random vibration, and reasoning‑based solutions.
Presentation of designs and decision justification to peers and customers.
Build parameterized models and software scripts to duplicate design efforts.
Participate in proposal development and feasibility studies for new programs.
Initial Focus (First 3 Months)
Get proficient in NX modeling and use of analysis tools and methods.
Learn about the details and physics of metal additive manufacturing to help drive decisions and become capable at Design‑For‑Additive‑Manufacturing (DFAM). Understand its strengths and weaknesses.
Design at least one prototype through analysis, reviews, documentation, additive build preparation, fabrication and evaluation.
Gain an understanding of basic antenna concepts.
Complete NXOpen online training.
Required Skills & Abilities
Expert in GD&T.
Skilled in Python or other engineering scripting languages.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Expert in configuration management and other basic engineering disciplines.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s in mechanical engineering.
5–10 years of experience in design engineering.
Experience with design for additive manufacturing.
Preferred
Capable of learning C#, PowerAutomate, and other languages.
Experience with a wide variety of CAD tools (Rhinoceros 3D, PicoGK, Grasshopper, etc.).
Understanding of the concept of Computational Engineering Models.
Experience with metal additive manufacturing.
Other Requirements
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card).
Hybrid work schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities None.
