Intake Specialist - Riverdale Animal Shelter

The animal shelter is seeking an Intake Specialist that is a highly motivated, polite, and outgoing individual with a professional demeanor to perform a variety of duties involving the record keeping, basic evaluation, vaccination, and care of animals brought into the shelter.
Responsibilities
Represent Riverdale Animal Shelter in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
Perform animal intake, including vaccinations, deworming, taking pictures, conducting basic behavioral and health evaluations, and accurately recording information into the animal shelter operating system (Chameleon). Report health or behavior abnormalities to the behavior and/or health care team.
Support the animal care team with daily feeding and cleaning of the animals in our care.
Support the shelter’s animal control partner agencies by assisting officers with animal intake and maintaining good communication with officers.
Adhere to effective disease control practices and evaluate animals at intake for any signs of infectious disease.
Administer oral and topical medications to animals.
Assist in the reclaiming of animals.
Train and work with volunteers in a cooperative manner.
Maintain and clean animal kennels
Provide food and water to shelter pets
Maintain a clean and tidy workspace
Participate in animal enrichment and stress reduction efforts.
Perform humane euthanasia on a rotating basis after certified in Humane Euthanasia.
Perform special projects as assigned.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of or the ability to learn general principles of animal care and to have a basic understanding of animal behavior.
Knowledge of or the ability to learnsyringe use and to impound animals.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge of or the ability to learn methods and procedures of kennel cleaning and maintenance.
Operate cleaning equipment and other tools used in maintenance of kennel.
Read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Computer skills: Basic computer skills. Knowledge of Chameleon operating system preferred.
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required
Preferred knowledge of low stress handling methods/Fear-Free Certified
Preferred knowledge of Chameleon operating system
Preferred veterinary assistant, veterinary technician, and/or dog training experience.
Experience
Previous animal handling experience of at least 12 months
Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment
Work Environment: Work is performed throughout shelter and internal office settings. Exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, potentially fearful/fractious animals and/or animal bites/scratches. Exposure to cleaning agents. Work can be emotionally taxing.
Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Frequent computer use. Potential for standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time. Regular animal handling and restraint.
