Description of College/Department/Program/Division/Unit The mission of the College of Science and Health is to provide an outstanding education in the diverse disciplines of science, health, and mathematics. The College is dedicated to student learning where enthusiastic faculty and staff intellectually challenge students in a supportive and professional environment. Fundamental to our mission is the belief in the value of education in the liberal arts and sciences and the creation of new knowledge.
Position Summary Under the general supervision of the department chair, a person(s) (full or part-time) in this position will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in public health and community health education (examples include: Introduction to Public Health, Introduction to Global Health, Sexual Health Promotion, Healthy Aging, others). In addition to preparing and holding classes, teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment(s), evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. Workload may also involve advising students and/or providing other services to the department. Further duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
Core Functions: Instruction and Assessment of Students
Prepare and deliver curriculum to undergraduate students
Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and other materials, ensuring they comply with department, college, and university guidelines including accessibility for students with disabilities
Evaluate and grade students’ classwork, assignments, and other activities utilizing the department’s grading criteria and system
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students
Compile, administer, and grade examinations and other assessment measuresInitiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records, and deliver them to the Registrar as directed
Other duties as assigned by chair or dean
Required Qualifications Master’s Degree [except in rare circumstances where post-baccalaureate certification or licensure or a baccalaureate plus experience can be established as appropriate qualifications for the teaching position].
Master’s degree in public health, health education, or closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications Professional background and/or training, education in public health and community health education.
