Insulator applies insulating material to exposed surfaces or structures, such as air ducts, hot or cold pipes, storage tanks, boilers, and buildings. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.
Overview of Primary Duties:
Apply, remove, and repair insulation on equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
Plan work and select proper tools.
Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
Reads and interprets ISO(s) and other instructions, determines the amounts, and selects required insulation material (sheet, tubular, or roll form)
Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to the structure.
Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors. prepare surfaces for insulation application

Safety Responsibilities and Expectations
Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
Participate in workplace inspections.
Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
Participate in required and assigned training.
Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
Present a mature approach to working safely.
Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Qualifications: Level III:
Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related insulation experience
Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related insulation experience
NCCER “Performance” Insulation journeyman verification
Level I:
Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related insulation experience
Requirements:
Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights
Physical Demands/Essential Job Functions: This job description reflects an assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Physical requirements for this role may include but are not limited to:
All weather conditions at varying temperatures
Work at varying elevations
Will work in windy and dusty environments
Moderate to high noise levels
The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
Ability to talk and hear to communicate
Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
