Circuit Court Clerk II (Lautenberg), SR-20, Kapolei, Oahu.
Determines and records the official actions in a court of general jurisdiction by recording minutes, maintaining custody of notices and documents, receiving and processing exhibits, and directing courtroom procedures during hearings and trials involving complex, contested cases.
Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Excess work experience requiring reading, comprehension, and application of written directions or high verbal skills may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Specialized Experience: One (1) year of work in a court or legal setting involving preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents in court proceedings.
Courtroom Experience: Six (6) months of work in a courtroom setting responsible for authoring the official record of proceedings, or experience as a litigation attorney or paralegal documenting courtroom contents and outcomes. At least six (6) months must be comparable to that performed by a Circuit Court Clerk I or District Court Clerk II.
Skill Requirement: Ability to type at 40 net words per minute. Proficiency may be tested by the appointing authority. Failure to meet requirements may result in suspension of eligibility.
Substitutions Allowed:
Fifteen (15) semester credits in a paralegal, legal studies, law, or related program may substitute for six (6) months of specialized experience, up to one (1) year.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Note: No educational substitution for the Courtroom Experience requirement.
Qualification for Firearms (Lautenberg): Applicants must be qualified to possess firearms or ammunition according to state and federal laws, with no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence convictions.
