Write and revise technical materials, such as equipment operator, maintenance, manuals, appendices, and repair parts and special tools lists manuals on advanced military equipment. May assist in layout work. Technical writer to develop system documentation to be used for maintenance and operation of the aerostat, mooring subsystem, payloads, and associated ground/site support equipment. This role is for the Documentation and Training department. This opening is contingent on TCOM receiving US government authorization to proceed with work on a contract already awarded. Working Procedure: Major Work Responsibilities: Maintain cognizance of system hardware status, configuration and testing schedules Become fully knowledgeable of the functions, operation, test and maintenance procedures of the equipment Evaluate existing operation and maintenance documentation Modify and develop documentation to meet current hardware configuration, requirements and schedules Interface with hardware/system and field engineering personnel to obtain the necessary information for developing the documentation materials Develop the operation and maintenance manuals within the schedule requirements Validate operation and maintenance manuals Adhere to stylesheet and DTD rules Ensure IETM XML is error free by using business rules and source verifier Supporting Work Responsibilities: Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources Review engineering specifications and design review documents Interview engineers and field support specialists Review Field Mod notices Review and evaluate previously existing training materials Use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) Proficient with technical writing in XML and/or Arbortext is required Proficient in use of DoD specifications, such as MIL-STD 40051-2C and MIL-HDBK-1222 Proficient in S1000D Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Familiar with graphics tools such as Adobe Creative Suite a plus Familiar with modeling tools such as Solid Works a plus Familiar with computer-based authoring tools, such as Windchill, Captivate or Articulate a plus Documenting/Recording/Communicating/Updating/Using/Evaluating Information: Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form Provide information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in personConfer with engineering disciplines, technical installers, manufacturing personnel, or field support personnel Keep up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job Use interviewing procedures Use technical information in operation and maintenance activities Evaluate Information to Determine Compliance with Standards Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards Ensure correct grammar, punctuation, or spelling Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in a related technical Engineering field or equivalent amount of education and experience. Related military training and/or experience is a plus. Experience Requirement: Minimum of five years of related work experience including preparation of system documentation. Field Engineering experience is desirable. Demonstrated experience in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, Fiber Optics, Aviation, Rail, Maritime, and Radar operation and maintenance are also acceptable forms of demonstrated abilities.
