Position Overview You will apprentice directly under a senior MAI‑certified appraiser and receive hands‑on training in commercial real estate appraisal methodologies, standards, and best practices. Over time, you will develop the skills needed to independently complete complex valuation assignments.
Day‑to‑day work includes client communication, market research, data collection and verification, property inspections, conversations with market participants, and collaborating with senior appraisers. This is a structured apprenticeship role designed to lead toward Certified General Appraiser licensure.
Job Responsibilities
Assist in the valuation of commercial real estate by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting market data
Conduct property inspections and gather relevant physical and operational information
Prepare appraisal reports in compliance with USPAP and other applicable standards
Research local market trends, comparable sales, lease data, and economic indicators
Communicate with brokers, property owners, lenders, and other market participants
Collaborate closely with the supervising appraiser to learn valuation methodologies and judgment
Maintain accurate, well‑organized appraisal files and supporting documentation
Participate in internal training and external coursework related to appraisal education
Progressively build the competency to manage assignments with increasing independence
Complete state requirements to become a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser Trainee in Alabama
Ultimately obtain a Certified General license
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
Strong analytical, quantitative, and critical‑thinking skills
Clear written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail and strong organizational habits
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Willingness to travel regionally for property inspections
