JOB REQUIREMENTS: Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul buses and trucks, or maintain and repair any type of diesel engines. Includes mechanics working primarily with automobile or marine diesel engines.

Responsibilities Perform diagnostic on company vehicles/semi's to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components.

Diesel mechanics need to be highly organized and communicate effectively, as they will be expected to maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with drivers on a daily basis.

Check vehicle lighting systems, test drive vehicles to gauge performance, performing preventative maintenance on trucks and adhering to an inspection procedure checklist/trailer checks, maintaining a parts inventory, ensuring the cleanliness of the shop/parts room.

Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.

Adjust or repair computer controlled exhaust emissions devices, attach test instruments to equipment, read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.

Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems, disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differential units.

Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices, inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure proper operating condition.

Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps and compressors, inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.

Install or repair accessories, maintain or repair vehicles with alternative fuel systems, including biodiesel, hybrid, or compressed natural gas vehicles, operate valve‑grinding machines to grind and reset valves.

Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery, raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists, rebuild gas or diesel engines, repair or adjust seats, doors, or windows, rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.

Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine such as fuel injection systems, test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly.

Use handtools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.

Other Experience and Qualifications Qualifications: Previous Related Experience Required, Must Have Own Tools.

Must have a valid driver's license and insurable driving history. CDL preferred, not requirement.
