About this opportunity : The Senior Analytical Chemist is responsible for research and technical development of strategic innovative technology to improve oligo manufacturing processes for Avecia’s clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Efficiently progress the Analytical Chemist aspects of new technology developments toward commercialization

Oversee experimental plans and ensure sound scientific methods are employed

Ensure collection of reproducible and reliable data

Actively participate in internal and external collaborations

Maintain the safety environment and foster the culture of Nitto safety

Report status of assigned activities to upper levels

Develop formal project charters and schedules

Oversee laboratory experiments in support of the department’s technology portfolio

Ensure laboratory documentation meets standard scientific record keeping practices

Write and review scientific reports for internal record and client submission

Participate in client meetings to report updates

Foster cross functional collaboration with Chemists and Engineers across other departments

Adhere to all company and departmental environmental health and safety policies and procedure

Maintain and update the knowledge of new technology, especially for oligonucleotide manufacturing

Investigate and propose new technologies that will improve productivity, quality, and reduce Product Mass Intensity (PMI) of oligo processes

Internal and external presentations (including conference presentations)

Ensure that project requirements and timelines are met

Plans and manages the deployment of T&I technical resources to meet, as effectively as possible, the objectives and priorities of the business in the areas of new technology development

Responsible for review reports and laboratory documents

Required Skills/Abilities:

In-depth understanding of oligonucleotide manufacturing and markets sufficient to critically evaluate the merits of new ideas with other experts

Ability to stay current with new technologies and propose ideas with maximum impact

Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years related experience in engineer‑related discipline, Master’s degree and 5+ years related experience in engineer‑related discipline, or Ph. D. degree and 1+ years related experience in engineer‑related discipline.

Sound data analysis and application of statistics

Ability to resolve complex non‑routine problems requiring in-depth scientific evaluation of concepts

Ability to design meaningful experiments which are strategic to the project outcome (especially proof of concept)

Ability to carry out multiple projects operating in parallel

Ability to manage a small team

Strong written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business‑related implications of assigned projects

Solid phase synthesis, oligonucleotide synthesis and GMP drug manufacturing knowledge and experience are desired

The annualized salary range for this position is $93,300.00 - $114,100.00.
