Your Role As Utility Foreman (Pipe Crew) As a Utility Foreman, you will lead and supervise underground utility crews, ensuring project work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This role requires strong technical knowledge of underground utilities installation, excellent leadership abilities, and the capacity to work independently while maintaining high safety and quality standards. You will oversee pipe installation, grade setup, equipment operation, and crew coordination while maintaining all required field documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Safety
Direct and supervise daily activities for field crews
Conduct safety tailgate meetings and enforce all safety guidelines
Maintain professional, consistent attendance and punctuality
Utility Installation & Technical Execution
Set up line, grade, elevations, and lasers
Read and interpret underground plans, diagrams, and blueprints
Lay pressure pipe, gravity sewer, fittings, valves, and piping systems
Install, diagnose, repair, and replace pipe and system components above and below grade
Perform piping takeoffs and layout pipe accurately
Manage wellpoint operations
Project Oversight & Documentation
Ensure work is performed to job specifications and completed efficiently
Oversee helpers and ensure quality workmanship
Maintain accurate job site documentation (time sheets, as-builts, etc.)
Work independently on routine projects with limited supervision
Equipment Operation & Physical Requirements
Operate heavy equipment as needed
Carry tools and materials up to 40 pounds
Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and other non‑standard positions
What You Need To Succeed
Key Competencies:
Strong leadership and communication skills
Excellent understanding of underground utilities and pipe installation
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and surveying/leveling equipment
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required
Technical school certificate or related training preferred
5–10 years of experience as a Utility Foreman
Pipe Fitting Experience Required
Experience maintaining field documentation
Ability to obtain and maintain facility access through background screening
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Ability to work alternative shifts or travel as needed
