JOB OPENING ANNOUNCEMENT

Rate of Pay:
$34,999 annually

Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and six (6) years of experience as a law enforcement officer with a NYS municipal police department or Sheriff’s Department (appointment must have been through the competitive process in accordance with NYSCSL Sec 58) or NYS police department, three (3) years of which must have been at a supervisory level;
or
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or on accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and eight (8) years of experience as a law enforcement officer with a NYS municipal police department or Sheriff’s Department (appointment must have been through the competitive process in accordance with NYSCSL Sec 58) or NYS police department, three (3) years of which must have been supervisory.
Typical Work Activities:
Maintains proper discipline and efficiency in all functions of the department
Plans current and future operations of the department and issues work orders, policies and procedures
Responsible for personnel management activities in unionized and non-unionized environments
Responsible for financial planning, execution, and reporting
Provides guidance and direction to all assigned personnel
Plans and conducts training in police methods and procedures
Leverages advancements in law enforcement technology and automated applications
Provides on-going updates concerning department operations to the Village Manager
Prepares work schedules, approves overtime assignments and days-off for members of the department
Reviews activities and reports of officers
Attends meetings, conferences, public meetings and public relations events related to crime prevention and police activities as directed by the Village Manager
Initiates and develops public relations policies and community policing programs for the department
Supervises the actions of the department at all major fires, riots, critical incidents and large assemblages
Coordinates traffic control and crowd control measures during civic events
Acts as the principle advisor to the Chief Executive Officer for critical incident management policy and execution
Directs the investigation of major criminal offenses
Coordinates Court Security requirements with the Village Justices
Cooperates with other municipal departments, County/State/Federal law enforcement agencies and the public
Prepares and directs the preparation of periodic reports
Makes rules and issues orders as consistent with State law or local ordinances
Sees that reports on departmental activities are prepared for the NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services, the NYS State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation
Recommends the purchase of necessary supplies and equipment
Research and apply for local, state and federal grant programs to include private, public and not-for-profit organizations
Duties as assigned
