Location of Position MDH Springfield Hospital Center, Sykesville, MD 21784
Main Purpose of Job This full‑time position will serve as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer, capable of conducting complex criminal and general investigations in a fair and impartial manner while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Implement crime scene procedures and evidence retention.
Complete comprehensive investigative reports.
Conduct interviews, interrogations, and liaison with the Maryland State Police as per the Memorandum of Understanding regarding criminal investigations at MDH facilities.
Enforce all applicable Federal, State, and local laws in a fair and impartial manner.
Provide medical and judicial transports for forensic patients using State vehicles.
Actively maintain Maryland Police and Corrections Commission (Police Officer) certification and Special Police Commission.
Remain on-call on a rotating basis when off duty and be available during weekends, holidays, or off hours to meet investigative and operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.
Six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.
U.S. citizenship and minimum age of 21 years.
Valid Maryland driver’s license and satisfactory background investigation.
Oral interview and physical examination required.
Ability to bear firearms and demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in safe use of firearms on a periodic basis.
Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with applicable regulations.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.
Eligibility for recertification within the past three years for those formerly certified.
Possession or potential to obtain a Special Police Commission as required by Public Safety Article, Section 3-209.
Special Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.
Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license.
Must be able to provide a phone number for contact during call‑in duty.
Must undergo periodic firearms proficiency testing.
Must pass substance abuse testing.
Selection Process Applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.
