Pay Range
Base pay: $1,000 – $24,999 per year (actual pay based on skills and experience).
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Leadership Annual Giving Officer at its Detroit campus location. Job Purpose Support and participate in fundraising efforts, strategies, and initiatives for the Honors College (Honors). Manage a portfolio of leadership annual gift prospects of approximately 100–150 alumni and friends. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to meet established fundraising goals while operating within the allocated expense budget.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of leadership annual gift prospects (100–150 alumni and friends).
Identify and qualify prospects; conduct one‑on‑one solicitations to strengthen constituent relations and increase donor giving at the $1,000 level or higher.
Achieve annual fundraising goals and support unit goals; performance measured by dollars raised, number of gifts, meetings, and contacts.
Develop fundraising plans, strategies, and activities to engage alumni and build a major donor pipeline; establish realistic timelines and stay current with trends.
Develop strategies to engage prospects and donors, increase attendance and participation in alumni & donor events, and encourage gifts at the $1,000 level or higher.
Serve as liaison to the Annual and Digital Campaigns team; collaborate on methodologies to expand the donor base, execute the annual Giving Day, and assist with the editing of solicitation letters, emails, and webpages.
Collaborate with the Donor Experience team to implement stewardship strategies, distribute impact reports, and assist recipients with inquiries.
Draft and negotiate gift and pledge documentation; route donor contributions to central development for timely processing.
Perform other related duties and complete special projects as assigned.
Position reports to: Senior Director, Donor Experience and Individual Giving. Responsibilities also include monitoring expenditures and interfacing with customers outside the S/C/D.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, business administration, or a related accredited field.
Knowledge:
Reasonable understanding of university policies and procedures.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years in fundraising, direct individual solicitation; at least 2 years of related experience. Experience preparing proposals and conducting gift solicitations preferred. Higher education or non‑profit development and volunteer management experience preferred.
Professional Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams) and complex administrative systems software.
Skills & Abilities:
Analytical and presentation skills; collaboration; clear and persuasive communications; learning agility; planning and organization; teamwork; technical competence.
Working Conditions Office environment. Adhere to confidentiality and data usage policy. Requires travel, evening meetings, and special events. Candidate must be willing to work extended hours as needed.
