Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the grooming salon, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows, optimizing scheduling and grooming capacity, managing inventory levels, and executing staffing plans.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of entry‑level earners and professional groomers, providing coaching, feedback and performance evaluations while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Create and manage efficient grooming schedules that optimize salon capacity, maximize productivity, and accommodate customer demand, balancing team availability with business needs.
Monitor salon performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, partner productivity), analyze data to identify areas for improvement, and develop action plans.
Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives, implementing strategies to grow the customer base and boost profitability.
Interact professionally with pet parents, provide exceptional customer service, address inquiries, offer grooming recommendations, and resolve concerns promptly.
Stay abreast of grooming industry trends and best practices to enhance your grooming skills and those of your team.
Independently perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) according to pet parent instructions and breed standards.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
Evaluate individual pet needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, temperament, etc., and educate parents on home care practices.
Ensure the well‑being and safety of every animal in the salon, monitoring for discomfort, illness or injury and reporting concerns to pet owners and management.
Perform quality checks to maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect and sanitize tools, and conduct daily/weekly cleaning duties in adherence to Petco hygiene policies.
Apply Petco grooming policies and standards to ensure safety, quality and consistency, holding salon team members accountable for standards.
Qualifications
Two or more years’ experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
Strong leadership skills with a desire to lead, train and develop people; 1–2 years’ previous salon management or related experience preferred.
High‑school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
Very strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and grooming team members.
Expert knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors.
Expert‑level proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
Genuine passion for animals with a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; ability to solve moderately complex problems with guidance when necessary.
Results‑driven with a commitment to salon productivity, performance, growth and improvement.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to the highest standards of grooming services.
Capable of handling pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Available to work full time (minimum 35 hrs/week), including weekends, evenings and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Work Environment Most duties are conducted indoors in the salon. Duties may involve bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 lbs), and standing for extended periods. Exposure to heights (e.g., two‑step ladder), vacuums and cleaning tools may occur. The environment can be noisy and wet.
Salary Salary Range: $15.00 – $22.50 per hour (or hourly or salary, as applicable).
