Position Summary This is a ten-month temporary appointment.
This position is a primary staff position in the Sports Medicine section of the Campus Health Service. The Athletic Trainer is expected to provide athletic training services for all students but will primarily work with campus recreation and provide coverage and care to club sports. This position will be responsible for assessment of injuries and proper treatment and referral. This position will also work with campus recreation on deciding on field coverage for high‑risk sports. The athletic trainer will need to be trained in emergency care and be able to respond and make decisions following emergency action plans. The athletic trainer will participate actively in the teaching activities of the Sports Medicine Section, including graduate and undergraduate programs for Athletic Training Students in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. In addition, the Athletic Trainer will participate in the clinical instruction of the many health care professionals‑in‑training, Residents and medical students on the Sports Medicine Service and other allied health students involved in affiliations with the Sports Medicine Program. Where appropriate, they will participate in the research activities carried out by the Sports Medicine Program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in Athletic Training.
North Carolina Athletic Training License.
Professional CPR certification.
Ability to develop and prepare emergency action plans.
Athletic Trainer is bound by the Athletic Trainer Licensure Act (G.S. 90-525,528).
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master's Degree.
Minimum of (3) years' experience as an Athletic Trainer at the Division IA college level.
Additional certifications and skills are desirable in soft tissue modalities, dry needling, Graston technique, and/or blood flow restriction.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
