KTRK-TV, the ABC‑owned television station in Houston, TX, is looking for a deeply‑committed journalist to oversee the creation, management, and production of a daily television newscast. The ideal candidate will have a heart for news, understanding the complexities of storytelling in today’s era of journalism and will uphold our “big J” journalism philosophy each day.
As a Newscast Producer, you will be expected to be available for breaking news at any time, work any day or shift, and collaborate closely with anchors, reporters, assignment editors, writers, directors, and graphic artists.
Responsibilities
Craft daily newscasts and manage all aspects of the broadcast
Pitch story ideas that fit our news strategy and ideology
Communicate well with others in the newsroom when building shows
Collaborate with digital team members throughout the day
Write clear and compelling broadcast copy
Execute last‑minute changes in high‑pressure situations
Basic Qualifications
Top‑level producing experience at a local news station
Demonstrated ability to work under deadline pressures in a rapid, fast‑paced environment
Detail‑oriented with strong editorial and production skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility with working hours (late nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays) and adaptability to change
Required Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related field
Required Experience
2–3 years of experience in a medium to large‑sized market
Location: Houston, TX | Salary: $105,165.00–$133,665.00 (USD)
