Interior Designer Job Description
The Koch Hazard Architects Interior Designer’s job is to create functionally beautiful spaces for clients.
Interior Designer will lead the project’s interior design combining creativity and technical knowledge with communication skills and understanding. Project design work culminates in drawings and specifications meeting the client’s approved scope and budget. The Interior Designer will work closely with all project team members and at all phases of the project. The Interior Designer will work diligently to ensure a positive and successful client experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Takes responsibility for interior design and interior design projects, working independently with oversight from Project Manager and Principal-in-Charge at major milestones.
Performs interior design assignments in all phases of design and construction.
Generates interiors related planning, design and investigative alternatives, construction documents in various software programs including the predominant drafting software (currently Revit) which includes: client presentations, design drawings, renderings and construction documents. Scope of drawings in construction documents will generally include interior elevations, finish plans, finish details, enlarged casework plans and detailing (as necessary), room finish schedules, reflected ceiling plans and special interior features.
Writes accurate interiors related product specifications, creates budgets, responds to change orders and RFI requests, and performs/checks code reviews.
Coordinates work with other disciplines.
When in scope, leads the selection and presentation of furniture, furniture systems, fabrics, equipment (FF&E), color palettes, and lighting and may produce furniture and signage packages.
Researches and stays current with materials, systems, lighting, and other products relevant to interior design.
Independently completes submittal reviews.
Produces proposals and other documents requested by clients for interiors only projects.
Secondary Responsibilities
Assists in renderings.
Assists the Principal-in-Charge in managing client expectations.
Engages in raising the level of awareness and knowledge of the aspects of interior design within the office.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field from an accredited school.
Min. 5+ years of interior design experience in a professional setting.
NCIDQ certification preferred.
LEED GA or above certification preferred.
Proficient in Revit.
Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and SketchUp preferred.
Knowledge of furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications.
