Working Title:

PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST – 64049870

This is a very responsible, Public Health Nutritionist position with the Women’s, Infants and Children (WIC) Program stationed in the Sebring WIC office of the Florida Department of Health in Highlands County. This position will also be required to travel to the Lake Placid and Avon Park offices. The role provides nutrition education and excellent customer service to WIC clients.

Responsibilities

Provides nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants.

Determines nutrition risk/eligibility criteria for applicants and gives correct food packages.

Prepares high-risk plans in the SOAP format.

Performs height, weight, finger stick and/or non-invasive bloodwork procedures; cleans the lab and hemacue machine as needed.

Coordinates nutrition education services and makes referrals for appropriate services.

Completes high-risk care plans monthly; completes no-show reports monthly and quarterly eligibility reports.

Participates in at least two community outreach events or presentations per year and documents in outreach activity log.

Collaborates with community agencies, health care providers, WIC vendors, and Health Department staff to conduct program operations.

Promotes a culture of continuous quality improvement and participates in at least two CQM projects.

Prepares records and reports, summarizes and analyzes statistics of WIC program services at regular intervals; submits supply and inventory requisitions monthly.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

Science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics; concepts and theories of nutrition or dietetics related to growth, development, health or disease; nutritional and dietary assessment techniques; methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.

Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and computer navigation; ability to determine nutrition-related needs of clients and respond appropriately; ability to analyze and explain rules, regulations, laws, policies, and standards.

Abilities:

Use various communication channels to provide education/training to audiences of varying literacy and comprehension levels; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships; learn and navigate FL WiSE computer application; comply with Florida Department of Health policies, Florida statutes, and WIC Procedure Manual; process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree from a U.S. accredited university or college in Nutrition Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, or Public Health Nutrition in accordance with Chapter 468.

Other Job-Related Requirements:

Incumbent may be required to work emergency duty before, during, or beyond normal hours.

Must possess a valid Florida Dietitian/Nutrition license.

Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
