Outside Machinist

The Outside Machinist is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems and components on ships and marine vessels. This role involves working on propulsion systems, pumps, valves, shafts, bearings, and other critical machinery, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. Responsibilities Install, align, and maintain shipboard machinery and mechanical systems. Perform precision measurements and alignments using specialized tools. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical components such as pumps, valves, turbines, and engines. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Operate hand tools, power tools, and machining equipment safely and effectively. Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on mechanical systems. Collaborate with other trades (welders, electricians, pipefitters) to complete projects. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and shipyard standards. Essential Skills 3+ years of outside machinist experience Proficiency in reading technical drawings and Mechanical Technical Work Documents. Hands-on experience with US Navy vessels Experience in troubleshooting and repairing shipboard systems. Ability to mentor, train, and teach others. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $28.00/hr.
