ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

Housing Forward, formerly known as Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance (MDHA), is a backbone organization that leads the development of an effective homeless rehousing system. In partnership with 150+ public, private, and nonprofit institutions, we make the experience of homelessness in Dallas and Collin Counties rare, brief, and non-recurring. POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief External Relations Officer, the Communications Director will lead the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies that advance agency and communitywide efforts to solve homelessness. This role collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners to lead brand management, content creation, digital and earned media strategies, and message development—shaping a clear, compelling narrative for the All Neighbors Coalition and building broad alignment and support for effective homelessness solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, multi-channel communications strategy for Housing Forward, including annual editorial calendar and initiative-specific campaigns with defined goals, timelines, and action plans

  • Project manage communications campaigns across channels to completion

  • Develop compelling messaging for a range of targeted audiences

  • Track developments on homelessness including federal and local policy shifts and media narratives to ensure communications align to the current moment

  • Engage internal staffers and initiative partners to get up to date data, identify brand-aligned storytelling opportunities, and produce relevant and timely content

  • Manage media relations and support development of press releases, media kits, and public statements in partnership with communications consultants and partners

  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and vendor relationships for communication projects and campaigns.

  • Produce performance reports with actionable insights for internal stakeholders

  • Build and manage the communications team at Housing Forward

  • Marketing and Digital Media

  • Execute marketing strategies and digital media campaigns to showcase progress, drive engagement, and increase reach across all platforms. Produce attention-worthy, timely, and impactful content for:

  • Website updates and landing pages

  • Social media

  • Email newsletters

  • Emerging media platforms as appropriate

  • Develop and share messaging and content toolkits for All Neighbors Coalition members and other organizational partners to expand reach. Create reports, one pagers, and collateral for thought leadership, public relations, and advocacy efforts

  • Manage and strengthen Housing Forward and All Neighbors Coalition’s brand through brand development, brand monitoring, and strategic positioning across all communications channels

  • Manage Housing Forward and the All Neighbors Coalition’s website to ensure content is accurate, accessible, and aligned to the agency communications strategy

  • Monitor analytics to refine strategies and report outcomes

Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Strategic Communications : Ability to advance communications objectives by defining target audiences, crafting and tailoring key messaging for each audience, and identifying appropriate channels of communication.

  • Narrative Framing/Storytelling : Ability to create captivating and influential content and translate system initiatives and progress into overarching narrative and distinct stories that meet political, cultural, and community moments.

  • Digital Marketing Proficiency : Proficient in developing and leading digital media campaigns. Fluent in creating digital content for social media, email marketing, and web platforms.

  • Writing & Editing Mastery: Exceptional clarity, precision, and polish in short- and long-form writing. Strong writing, editing, and attention to detail.

  • Marketing and Design: Proficiency with marketing and brand management; experience with marketing and design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, WordPress, Hootsuite)

  • Project Management & Organization : Ability to move projects to completion on time, juggle multiple deadlines, and coordinate across teams.

  • Adaptability & Judgment: Comfort responding to fast-changing narratives, with strong situational awareness and professional discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, or related field, OR a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-channel communications strategies and projects

  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and car insurance (minimal travel required)

  • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs.

Work Schedule

Housing Forward’s standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required to attend community events or partner meetings. Employees are currently expected to work in the office at least 3 days per week.
