Pay: $23/hr + $100 daily per diem for days worked
Basic Purpose and Function:
As a Steel Fitter specializing in marine construction, your role will involve using oxy-acetylene torches, tack welding, reading blueprints, and fabricating dump scows and deck barges. You will be instrumental in the assembly and fitting of steel components for marine vessels.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in using oxy-acetylene torches for cutting and shaping steel components.
- Ability to perform tack welding to secure steel pieces in place during the fabrication process.
- Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to accurately assemble steel structures.
- Knowledge and expertise in building dump scows and deck barges, adhering to industry standards and project specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in fitting steel components to ensure structural integrity.
- Familiarity with common welding techniques and practices for marine construction applications.
- Physical ability to maneuver and lift heavy steel materials as required.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Attention to safety procedures and protocols in a marine construction environment.
Education, Certifications, and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proven experience as a steel fitter or similar role in marine construction.
- Certification in welding or relevant trade qualifications preferred.
Major Responsibilities (Functions/Duties):
- Utilize oxy-acetylene torches and tack welding techniques to cut and fit steel components for dump scows and deck barges.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to assemble steel structures accurately.
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to ensure precise fitting of steel components.
- Follow project specifications and industry standards to meet quality and safety requirements.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment to facilitate efficient construction processes.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working on marine construction projects. Working Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday Working Hours: 48+ hours per week
