Job Summary This is a full‑time position responsible for financial reporting, analysis, reconciliation, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records of Southwest Tennessee Community College and Southwest Foundation. This position reports to the Director of Accounting.
Job Duties
Prepare, examine, and/or analyze complex accounting transactions, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
Function as subject matter expert or project lead on accounting for cross‑departmental projects and strategic finance initiatives.
Lead and/or review processes to compile and communicate financial results, including regulatory and management reporting; independently interpret and analyze financial results.
Recommend and implement internal controls to mitigate risks associated with financial and management reporting.
Develop, maintain, and monitor aging reports, trend analysis, charts, and graphs, and prepare detailed and complex accounting, statistical, and narrative financial reports and statements.
Assist with financial activity closeouts and financial audits, preparing year‑end schedules and supplemental reports as required.
Enhance the control environment by monitoring accounting processes and systems; recommend process changes and improvements.
Prepare bank reconciliations.
Prepare tax documentation and financial statements as needed.
Lead and perform research and implementation of new GASB accounting standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college, with training that enables performance of the essential job functions.
Five (5) years of recent experience in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, or analysis of business operations.
Background check required for the successful candidate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, applicable GASB and GAAP guidelines regarding classification of fixed assets, and analysis and reporting of financial data.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills.
Experience with Ellucian Banner systems and Argos reporting software desired.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organization skills to determine workload priorities.
