Electrician (Substation Qualified) – Job Description An Electrician (Substation Qualified) is an electrician that has received additional training and demonstrated competency to work safely in high voltage substations. The role involves installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining electrical and electronic circuitry systems and equipment in both the building’s electrical distribution system and facility/production equipment.

Examples of equipment include, but are not limited to: CNC machines, programmable logic controllers, heat treat furnaces, electrical heating elements, air compressors, water heaters, generators, control equipment, electrical motors, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, transformers, conduit, wiring, and other electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

Install, repair and maintain electrical distribution conduits, wiring and components (e.g. switches, transformers, circuit breakers, motor starters, etc.)

Troubleshoot, repair and maintain machine control systems (e.g. PLC, relays, timers, etc.)

Perform troubleshooting of complex equipment to determine cause of failure/defect

Install and perform functional checks of simple machine electrical/electro‑mechanical components (e.g. limit switches, sensors, floats, toggles, panel lights, interlocks, etc.)

Create holes in walls, floors, roofs, and panels for the installation of electrical components.

Install and repair hangers and brackets used to facilitate electrical installation.

Perform Predictive Maintenance Inspections (Vibration, Infrared Thermography, Ultrasound)

Perform basic equipment servicing (cleaning, lubrication, coolant, filters, etc.)

Clean facility and production equipment (internal/exterior surfaces, contaminants – residues/oil/dirt/chips, etc.)

Perform all work activity in a safe manner while maintaining compliance to Honeywell’s Health Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS).

Perform work with high quality. Utilize best practices and the appropriate tools, materials and parts for the task at hand.

Perform work in an efficient manner. Escalate quickly when issues arise that prevent timely completion of work assignments. Actively seek new assignments when work is completed faster than expected.

Implement processes to sustain a clean and orderly workplace. Ensure equipment and work areas are cleaned and all tools are properly stored at the completion of each assignment.

Actively participate in defining, documenting and continuously improving maintenance procedures in the pursuit of the safest, most productive work methods.

Effectively communicate with coworkers and provide assistance to others when appropriate to ensure success of the team.

Qualifications

Journeyman card or 8 years of equivalent experience performing electrical maintenance

Completion of Substation Maintenance Training Program

High School graduate or equivalent

Basic reading and writing skills

Math skills that demonstrate a basic understanding of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry

Due to Federal regulations, candidate must be either a U.S. Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident

Basic computer skills – locate/open files, send/receive emails, process/enter details in service reports

Ability to understand and apply National Electrical Codes and additional codes that apply to the facility

Ability to work in tight spaces

Ability to work at elevation (ladders, lifts, scaffolding)

Ability to lift 35 pounds

Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, standard operating procedures and use measurement devices

Ability to use transportation equipment to deliver and retrieve material, personnel, and toolboxes at job sites

Ability to address problems methodically to identify causes and take appropriate actions to correct defects

Ability to select and utilize the appropriate tools for the performance of job tasks. This position will utilize tools such as, but not limited to: pliers, wire strippers, screwdriver, channel locks, meters, meggers, testing equipment, laptop computer and other similar tools.
