Lead Mechanical Engineer The Lead Mechanical Engineer will report to the Engineering department leader and will be responsible for all facets of project and design engineering to include machine design and modification, system design and specification and any standards, procedures, and specifications pertinent to all applied design engineering disciplines with an emphasis on hydraulic design.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Implement new machinery and support equipment designs and projects, perform design verification calculations and checks for technical accuracy using DFM, industry best practices, and department standards.
Lead various design and support projects from creation to completion.
Provide technical support for manufacturing teams, addressing production challenges and implementing improvements for cost-effectiveness.
Prep clear, concise, and accurate engineering specifications in the form of drawings (CAD files), solid models, machine files (flat patterns, CAM, etc.), spreadsheets and database files, and supporting standards documentation in accordance with Lummus and industry principles.
Develop detailed technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and manuals.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in existing machinery, contributing to the development of effective maintenance procedures and maintaining the quality of active product offerings.
Participate in the construction and assembling of experimental models and prototypes.
Test, proof, and check performance, safety, manufacturability, and cost characteristics of complex items.
Occasional travel to customers, vendor/supplier, and other industry related sites for training and support.
Assist sales with proposals and application of equipment.
Work with supply chain and vendors to develop relationships, support, and products.
Develop and supervise engineers and other resources as assigned, assigning and reviewing work to support project and manufacturing deadlines and product development.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
BS applicable field (i.e. Agricultural, Mechanical Engineering, ETC.)
Proficient computer skills to include AutoCAD, SolidWorks (Sheetmetal and weldments), and PDM file management.
Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office suite including spreadsheet – database a plus.
Strong organizational skills including project management.
8+ years’ experience in related field or job function.
Degree requirement may be waived in lieu of proof of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese fluency.
Electrical design experience.
Hydraulic system design experience.
Airflow calculations and ductwork/piping design experience.
Ag machinery design.
Manufacturing experience, including welding, metal fabrication, machining, assembly, and other techniques.
