General Description Under general supervision from the Forestry Supervisor and immediate supervision of the Forestry Crew Supervisor, performs entry level utility and urban forestry work.
Graduation from high school.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Special Requirements
Must be able to obtain and possess a valid Class A Utah Commercial Driver License within six (6) months after date of hire.
Must possess a current non-commercial Pesticide Applicator License from the State of Utah within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
Must be willing to respond to work-related call outs after hours.
Must be on-call several times per year, for a period of seven (7) days each rotation, as determined by an assignment schedule adopted by the Department; must be on-site within 30 minutes of being called in.
Must sign Apprenticeship contract as part of the hiring process.
Inspects trucks, tools and equipment used in forestry and grounds maintenance, for safe condition and efficient operation, and reports necessary repairs.
Under supervision, prunes, removes, and maintains trees and vegetation from conflict with overhead power lines and structures. Works around energized conductors to maintain and clear utility right-of-way. Manually loads trucks with logs and other materials; cleans work areas; feeds brush chippers.
Under supervision, operates bucket trucks and other equipment around energized lines, climbs trees, operates chain saws, chipper, stump grinder, dump trucks, hydraulic pruning tools, snowplow, backhoe, skid steer, etc.
Under supervision, plants, prunes and maintains City street trees and City park trees, keeps a daily work record for the apprenticeship program.
Completes the requirements of the Arborist Apprenticeship Program, in adherence to the established program schedule.
Performs snow removal and landscaping duties as assigned.
Performs related duties as required.
