CAD Drafter/Engineering Assistant (Doors and Entryways Engineering Focused) Lancaster PA Introduction:

Summary: Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the CAD Drafter/Engineering Assistant will translate conceptual designs produced by Project Engineers and ensure the product is designed according to product specifications. The CAD Drafter/Engineering will work in conjunction with Engineers to finalize submittal design packages and fabrication drawings, and with Designers to translate their concepts and specifications into precise drawings that can be used for construction, manufacturing, or other purposes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Create accurate 2D and 3D drawings, schematics, and models using CAD software in alignment with project specifications.

Develop detailed door designs and contribute to design applications that support both engineering and production teams.

Collaborate with project stakeholders and the production team to fully understand design objectives, technical requirements, and constraints.

Maintain clear communication with the lead engineer and designer to address production challenges and integrate feedback throughout the design process.

Support engineers in conceptualizing, developing, and refining design solutions, contributing ideas and insights during design discussions, meetings, and brainstorming sessions.

Prepare comprehensive technical documentation including plans, elevations, sections, and material lists.

Ensure accuracy and consistency across all drafting deliverables.

Conduct thorough reviews of drafted drawings to identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and compliance issues, ensuring all dimensions, tolerances, and specifications align with door design requirements.

Coordinate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) between production and engineering and incorporate revisions into existing drawings and designs.

Maintain version control and revision history for CAD files and documentation.

Manage workload and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines and milestones, proactively communicating with team members to coordinate efforts and address potential delays.

Maintain organized records of engineering drawings, documents, and files, ensuring that all documentation is up to date, accurate, and easily accessible to engineering teams.

Job Requirements:

U.S. Citizen.

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Associate degree in a relevant discipline or, in lieu of a degree, 5 years of experience performing in a similar role.

Understanding of engineering architecture or related disciplines with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting work with a focus on producing high‑quality deliverables.

Knowledge of DOS standards, FE/BR standards and spec requirements (preferred but not required).

Proficiency in Autodesk products and understanding of project management, document control, and product lifecycle management software.

Thorough understanding of design principles.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and a strong attention to detail.

Ability to travel occasionally both domestically & internationally (if required).

Physical Environment: The position functions in a temperature‑controlled office environment a majority of the time. The work requires the ability to sit throughout an extended workday (8–10 hours) with occasional walking into other areas of the manufacturing facility. The position requires the use of fingers, hands, and arms on a consistent basis for keyboarding and phone work; it requires the ability to talk and hear, and may need to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion. Excellent vision skills (with or without correction) are required. The standard office environment has moderate noise levels associated with computer equipment, customers, and phone conversations. Occasionally the noise level may be loud due to various equipment in use in the manufacturing facility.
