RWRD is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced professional to help ensure the quality, safety, and compliance of public sanitary sewer projects. As a Public Works Construction Inspector II, you will monitor construction activities, verify adherence to plans and specifications, and collaborate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to deliver projects that serve the community. This role leads and participates in reviewing approved major complex technical public works construction plans and conducts on-site observations to ensure work complies with specifications. This position is distinguished from Public Works Construction Inspector I by leading and training staff and inspecting major complex construction activity. Essential Functions

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is illustrative and not exhaustive. Work assignments may vary by department need and will be communicated by the supervisor. Leads, assigns work, trains staff, and interprets approved major complex construction plans, specifications, and special provisions as a basis for conducting all construction inspection activity. Inspects major construction of concrete structures (bridges, overpasses, box culverts) for placement of concrete, false-work and forms, steel reinforcement, rebar, and caissons for compliance with county specifications. Inspects earthwork operations including site clearing, roadway, drainage, excavations, backfill, embankment fills or trenches, bedding, shading, and related elements for compliance. Performs sub-grade and aggregate base course inspection for materials stability and width of roadway. Inspects paving and associated materials (asphaltic concrete, chip seal, piping, etc.) for compliance with plans. Oversees coordination with contractors, architects, and departmental sections to meet construction requirements. Ensures traffic control and work-site safety measures are taken. Oversees daily site checks to review and monitor construction progress. Conducts informal pre-construction meetings with site foremen to review requirements and provisions. Resolves issues with site foremen over identified noncompliance. Serves as departmental liaison with project contractors, other agencies, and private sector; reports inspection outcomes to management. Works with utility companies to establish desirable locations for utilities and inspects installation of utility and drainage pipes. Maintains daily records, written reports, and pictorial documentation; validates monthly pay estimates; compiles post-construction documentation. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience inspecting construction projects (sewers, water lines, roadways, bridges, or flood control channels) including two years of experience inspecting public works construction projects. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) Or two years of experience with Pima County as a Public Works Construction Inspector I, or a similar level position inspecting public works construction projects. Qualifying education and experience must be documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application. Preferred Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years as a foreman/lead in underground utility construction. Minimum three (3) years as an inspector for wastewater sewer systems, water distribution systems, or storm drain systems. Experience in standard construction procedures and techniques. Experience with/knowledge of using computers. Selection Procedure

Licenses and Certificates:

Valid driver license required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine suitability to operate county vehicles. Failure to obtain/maintain required licenses and certifications may be grounds for termination. Any offer is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at time of application or prior to completion of probation. Failure to obtain/maintain required licensure shall be grounds for termination. Special Notice Items:

Some positions involve working around traffic and construction equipment. Safety training and equipment will be provided. Employees may encounter wildlife, insects, and plants. Some positions may require lifting up to 100 pounds and operating vehicles in various conditions. Ability to work on rough terrain, recognize standard colors for underground utilities, and wear protective gear. Other requirements will be determined by position. Working Conditions:
