The
Prep Cook
is responsible for preparing ingredients and setting up workstations for cooks to create dishes for events. This includes tasks like washing, chopping, and measuring ingredients, as well as maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Prep cooks ensure that all necessary items are readily available for chefs to prepare meals according to specific menus and event requirements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares and cooks foods requiring longer preparation time
Washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and measuring fruits, vegetables, meats, and other food items.
Organizing and setting up workstations with necessary ingredients, equipment, and utensils.
Adhering to recipes and menu specifications provided by chefs or event managers.
Keeping workstations, equipment, and the kitchen clean and sanitized
Ensuring accuracy in measurements, food preparation, and workstation setup
Monitoring ingredient levels, assisting with inventory, and ensuring proper storage.
Helping with various tasks during the cooking process, including parboiling, reducing sauces, and preparing side dishes.
Assist in inventory management by notifying the team of low stock levels.
Ensure proper storage and labeling of food items, following FIFO (First In, First Out) practices
Adhering to food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
Working as part of a team with chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth event execution.
Completing tasks according to the chef's prep list and ensuring timely food preparation
REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely.
Good organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks
Ability to collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff.
Ability to understand and follow instructions from chefs and kitchen managers.
Understanding of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
High School or equivalent. Coursework in restaurant preferred.
At least 1‑2 years of experience in a prep cook role
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, and weekends
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands for this position are stands, walks, bends, lifts, and moves on an ongoing basis during working hours within a fast‑paced environment.
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
